Caramanna, Friedberg LLP offers an intensive, practical and thorough articling experience. One student is hired each year and our focus is on giving students an insight into the workings of the criminal justice system by ensuring they are in court on a daily basis. The following is a list of some of the skills students can expect to gain practical experience in:
-Visiting clients at detention centres and jails;
-Preparing files for trial;
-Reviewing of disclosure to prepare Charter and pre-trial applications;
-Further disclosure requests, or other defence motions;
-Attending administrative set date courts;
-Interviewing witnesses and potential sureties;
-Legal research;
-Handling calls from prospective clients;
-Bail review applications; and
-Trials and pleas for summary and provincial offences matters.

Caramanna, Friedberg LLP is an established criminal law firm practicing in the GTA consisting of 5 criminal lawyers and one articling student. While headquartered in Toronto, our presence extends to the surrounding areas of Brampton, Milton, Newmarket, Oshawa, Barrie, & Lindsay.
Our lawyers appear in all levels of trial court in Ontario, and have a wealth of experience in serious criminal offences such as homicides, firearms offences, grow-ops, robberies, and sexual assaults. Thus, we provide our clients with expertise from the moment charges are laid until their criminal law matters are completed. Our students are presented with the opportunity to work closely with counsel and learn how to conduct these cases.
Application Requirements
Applications should include:
1. A resume;
2. At least one letter of recommendation and the names, addresses and phone numbers of at least two further references (preferably one academic and one other);
3. An official copy of all academic transcripts for law school and all undergraduate degrees; and
4. If possible, applicants should also supply a writing sample related to criminal law or evidence.

Following a review of applications, selected candidates are interviewed in accordance with the Law Society of Upper Canada Procedures for the recruitment of articling positions across the province of Ontario.
